ウェブレーベルLinesoundの運営、電子音楽イベント『Line』の開催など大阪を拠点に活動、2020年5月にリリースされた2枚組コンピレーション『a sign 2』にも楽曲が収録されている電子音楽家Junya Tokudaによる新作がremodelよりリリース! 本作『Anemic Cinema』は2020年11月にshrine.jpよりリリースされた『No Man’s Land』から半年足らずと短いスパンでのリリースとなるが、『No Man’s Land』は2018～19年に制作した音源をメインとした作品であったため、本作は彼の『a sign 2』以降の姿が瑞々しく収められた一作と位置付けられるだろう。アブストラクトなダブ・テクノ、もしくはダビーなエレクトロニカといえる様相を保っているものの、その他のサウンドが浮遊し溶け合う海のような存在がどの楽曲にも強力な酩酊性と魅力的な音像を与えており、例えばUllaなどの作品を送り出すベルリンのExperiences Ltd.もしくはマンチェスターのレーベルsfericの作品群などにも通じる優美さ、アンビエンスが薫る一作。 よろすず

大阪を拠点に活動する電子音楽家Junya Tokudaによるtoleranceのリミックス・アルバムが阿木 譲とスタジオワープ=Slowdown Recordsにより立ち上げられたレーベルremodelよりリリース。
Junya Tokudaはライブ活動や作品のリリースに加え、ウェブレーベルLinesoundの運営、電子音楽イベント『Line』の開催なども行っている。
これまでの主なリリースは『map not seen EP』(Linesound, 2011)、『A Day In The Alley』 (shrine.jp, 2016)、『Unleash EP』(LongLongLabel, 2018)、『No Man’s Land』 (shrine.jp, 2020)など。
またremodelからは本作に先んじて2021年4月に単独アルバム『Anemic Cinema』もリリースし ており、2020年5月にリリースされた2枚組コンピレーション『a sign 2』にも楽曲が収録されている。
本作『VANITY RE-MAKE/RE-MODEL Vol.1』は阿木譲によって1978年に設立されたVanity Recordsのカタログから東京の丹下順子によるプロジェクトtoleranceの残した音源を素材に用い たリミックス・アルバム。
制作は『Anemic Cinema』と同時期(2020年8月下旬〜2020年12月中頃)に並行して行われ、 基本的な音楽性、特にダブ的な空間系エフェクトによる音のトリートメントの冴えは両作に共通 しているが、パッドや動きのあるノイズなどがそのエフェクト操作によって巧みに溶け合うことで生まれる海のような音像の中から、本作ではtoleranceの素材が時には引き裂かれたテープが水 面を泳ぐように朧げかつ断片的に、また時にはテープリールが転がり落ちるような急速さと突発性を持って姿を現す。『Anemic Cinema』にも感じられた耳を小突き、撫でるような触覚性が、 周到な配慮のうえで取り入れられた異物感によってより生々しく炙り出されたかたちだ。 また、toleraneceの音楽性を成り立たせる大きな要素の一つであった楽器演奏の側面、特にエレピのサウンドが効果的に用いられたトラックも印象的であり、また興味深いことにそれらそれら 以外のトラックではベースラインが強い引力を発揮し、まるでエレピに応答するかのようにJunya Tokudaの音楽性からフレーズの面での魅力が引き出されている。 生成音とサンプルの巧みな扱いで有機的な感触までも生み出すJunya Tokudaの音楽に、硬く、ザラつき、軸の歪んだようなtoleranceの声、ノイズ、器楽が入り込むことで、その器の大きさや隠 れていた模様が浮かび上がった、爽快かつ魔術的な一作。
